From the moment we were greeted upon our arrival by Christine (and her beautiful dogs Barney and Spencer) it was clear this was going to be a special stay. We were given clear and concise information regarding the property and our room, as well as being offered a delightful and much needed pot of tea and biscuits which were taken in the glorious living room with magnificent views across the lawns. We felt as if we'd been invited on a country house weekend with all the luxury, peace and tranquility that entails. The room was spacious, the furniture and fittings superb and the bed extremely comfortable. Flasks of milk, a variety of teas and coffees, a selection of biscuits and even a coffee machine added to the comfort of the room. The property is set within many acres of land and on the first morning Barney and Spencer took us on a tour of the grounds which included woodland walks, a visit to the piggery and a lot of tennis ball and stick throwing! Breakfast was excellent with a selection of delicious fresh summer fruits, cereals, yoghurts, fruit juice and toast, together with a wide selection of cooked options including home reared pork sausages and bacon, smoked salmon, together with eggs of your choice. Added enjoyable features were a full sized snooker table, fascinating conversations with other guests over breakfast at a large communal table and a wide variety of bird species in the immedaite environs. Thank you Christine and your family for a delightful stay. We will certainly be back!

Overall a brilliant stay. Beautiful quiet spot. Grounds large scenic and well kept. House stone and 'historic country'. Enough safe parking. Room enormous, furnished in English Country Home style, but not cold. Light, but with effective curtains for once. Enough storage if a bit basic. Plenty of power points. Really large, comfy bed and pillows. Very large shower/bathroom with a strong shower and plenty of shelves, often a problem in B&Bs. Hostess so dignified and helpful. Unusual facilities available such as a full size snooker table. We didn't get to take the dogs to the river for a swim, but that's the sort of thing on offer. You do need to like dogs really, although if you don't I think the property would provide well for that.

A wonderful stay at a huge manor house, exceeded our expectations. Burnhopeside had everything we needed and more for our visit to Durham and Newcastle. Spencer the spaniel greeted us on arrival and offered plenty of cuddles and attention throughout our stay. The breakfast was fantastic, a home made feast served at any time we wanted and included fresh berries, yoghurt, cooked breakfast, toast, jams, cereals and teas. The room and bathroom had copious amounts of space and the super king size bed was unbelievably comfortable. We even spotted a kingfisher whilst exploring some of the 500 acres of grounds with our dog. Christine was so kind and hospitable we would highly recommend staying here.

Goodness, what an incredibly delightful.experience at Burnhopeside Hall. Absolutely nothing we could fault. Thank you ,Christine for letting us into your wonderful home. Pure luxury and everything of the most high quality.. A huge bedroom really more a suite, and so beautifully furnished. A country house full of wonders and a billiard room too! . Nothing was any trouble and the wonderful cooked breakfast was made to order plus ahuge choice of fruits, cereals ,yogurt was fantastic served in beautiful Regency dining rooms. Cannot praise Christine , her son James and Burnhopeside Hall enough, wonderful.

I thought the breakfast was very good (vegetarian) and it was all made/delivered very promptly. I was pleased that I wasn't expected to be too early for breakfast!!! I appreciated the flexibility of not having to give a firm arrival time (as I wasn't sure when booking). I also appreciated the central heating being on (even thought it was May .... ) as it had rained heavily and, outside, it felt damp. The offer of being given local recommendations to eat was also welcomed, even though I didn't need it. Fresh milk in the room was great.
